Tribes - Royal Court

TRIBES, a new play by Nina Raine, runs at the Royal Court (Jerwood Theatre Downstairs) from October 19 (previews from October 14) to November 13, 2010.


Nina Raine's new play revolves around Billy, who is profoundly deaf and his family. "a fascinating dissection of belonging, family and the limitations of communication"

The cast includes Jacob Casselden (Pride and Prejudice, BBC) as Billy; Olivier nominated Kika Markham (Song at Twilight, West End) as Billy’s mother Beth; Stanley Townsend (Phedre, Gethsemane, National Theatre) as Christopher; Michelle Terry (London Assurance, England People Very Nice, National Theatre) as Sylvia; Harry Treadaway (Over There, Royal Court) as Daniel; and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (2nd May 1997, Bush Theatre) as Ruth.

Tribes is directed by Roger Michell, whose theatre credits include My Night with Reg (Royal Court), Rope (Almeida Theatre), The Female of the Species (Vaudeville Theatre) and Betrayal (Donmar Warehouse). His film credits include Venus, Enduring Love and Notting Hill.

Nina Raine won the Evening Standard Award and Critics’ Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright for her debut play Rabbit, which premiered at the Old Red Lion Theatre in 2006, before transferring to Trafalgar Studios.

Tribes is designed by Mark Thompson, with lighting by Rick Fisher and sound by John Leonard.
