Rock of Ages Setting

Hertz is one of the German developers who works with his son Fritz to convince the city's Mayor to abandon the "sex, drugs and rock-n-roll" lifestyle of the Sunset Strip and introduce "clean living" into the area so that they can start demolishing properties.

The story is set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip centring on Drew who is a busboy and aspiring rocker who goes in search of his dreams to Los Angeles’ most famous rock club, where he meets Sherrie who has just arrived from Kansas.

In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl meets a big city rocker in LA’s most famous rock club and they fell in love to the greatest songs of the 80s. It’s ROCK OF AGES, an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits such as Don’t Stop Believin’, Dead or Alive, We Built This City, I Wanna Know what Love Is and The Final Count Down.

Rock of Ages features glam-rock music from Bon Jovi, Journey, Whitesnake, Poison and Pat Benatar with over 20 hits including “Sister Christian”, “I Wanna Rock”, “We’re Not Gonna Take It”, “Come on Feel the Noize”, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, “The Final Countdown” and “Don’t Stop Believin’” , “Dead or Alive”, “We Built This City”, “I Wanna Know What Love Is” and “The Final Countdown" and others from bands including Styx, Twisted Sister, Poison and Bon Jovi. Ironically, the Def Leppard song from which the show takes its title doesn’t feature in the musical as the band wouldn’t approve the license,

Rock of Ages premiered in Los Angeles in 2006 and opened Off-Broadway in 2008 before transferring to Broadway’s Brooks Atkinston Theatre in 2009. A Hollywood screen adaptation starring Tom Cruise is scheduled for 2012.
