New West End Musicals for Next Year’s Theatre Breaks

The choices for theatre breaks in London are set to get a bit more exciting in the next year or so as there are big changes ahead. Musicals coming into London’s West End  include:
Confirmed:

  • Love Story – production from Chichester Festival confirmed for the Duchess Theatre previews from November 27th 2010, booking to Feb 26th 2011.
  • The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee – Donmar Warehouse from February 11th – April 2nd 2011
  • The Wizard of Oz – confirmed for Palladium previews from Feb 2011
  • Shrek – confirmed for Theatre Royal Drury Lane May 2011
  • Ghost – confirmed for the Piccadilly June 22nd (Previews in Manchester first)

Possibles:

  • Lend Me A Tenor – Theatre Royal Plymouth from next week but hoping for a West End transfer next year.
  • Betty Blue Eyes – playing the West Yorshire Playhouse in the spring with an early West End transfer likely, as it’s backed by Cameron Mackintosh!
  • Rebecca – now likely to open in West End rather than Broadway sometime in early 2011.
  • Sondheim on Sondheim – various rumours, including an October 2010 start (unlikely!)
  • South Pacific – Broadway production transfer – no theatre yet – summer 2011?
  • Chess – Current UK Tour hopes to find a theatre – summer 2011?
  • Follies – possible production at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, after Sweet Charity? Maybe?
  • Rock of Ages – possible London run for 80s Broadway jukebox musical, maybe Spring 2010

Which ones do you fancy? I’m looking forward most to Ghost and South Pacific but they all look good. Exciting times ahead!
